Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera has been selected to serve as chair of the Policy Board of the San Diego Workforce Partnership, the region’s leading organization dedicated to workforce development, economic mobility, and equal opportunity.
As Chair, Elo-Rivera will bring a commitment to economic justice to the forefront of efforts to ensure every San Diegan—regardless of background, zip code, or income—has access to good jobs, fair wages, and a pathway to fulfill their potential.
“San Diego’s economy is only as strong as the working people who keep it moving,” said Elo-Rivera, District 9. “For too long, economic opportunity has been reserved for too few, while too many are forced to work multiple jobs just to survive. That’s unacceptable. As Chair of the Policy Board, I will fight for a fairer, more inclusive economy—one where workers are respected, wages reflect the true cost of living, and everyone has a real shot at success.”
Elo-Rivera’s leadership comes at a time when San Diego is facing an affordability crisis, growing income inequality, and uncertainty about how Federal actions may impact our binational economy.
Under his guidance, the San Diego Workforce Partnership will expand efforts to:
·Strengthen workforce training programs that connect workers—especially those from historically marginalized communities—to good-paying, high-quality jobs and careers.
·Ensure public investments in job training and education prioritize those who need it the most, including young people, immigrants, and those reentering the workforce.
·Partner with local businesses and labor unions to create stronger career pathways that lead to stable employment and long-term financial security.
·Fight for policies that put working people first, ensuring that every worker is paid fairly, treated with dignity, and given a fair shot at success.
Elo-Rivera is succeeding County Supervisor Monica Montgomery-Steppe as Chair and expressed appreciation for the Supervisor’s leadership. “Supervisor Montgomery-Steppe skillfully guided the Workforce Partnership through multiple challenges without ever losing sight of the mission,” Elo-Rivera said. “I am incredibly appreciative of her leadership in positioning the Workforce Partnership for its most impactful chapter. I am grateful for her vote of confidence and the confidence of my colleagues in selecting me as Chair.”
Elo-Rivera represents San Diego’s Ninth Council District including communities of City Heights, College Area, El Cerrito, Kensington, Mission Valley East, Mountain View, Mt. Hope, Normal Heights, Rolando Village, Rolando Park, Stockton and Talmadge. He is the chair of the Environment Committee and the Select Committee on Addressing Cost of Living.
