The Best Julian Restaurants
Julian Beer Co.
Address: 2307 Main St, Julian, CA 92036
Phone: (760) 765-3757
Website
The outstanding Julian Beer Co. is a mix between a brewery and eatery in a barn-style setting. It’s located in the heart of Julian; in fact, it’s the biggest venue on all of Main Street. This is actually one of my favorite BBQ spots in San Diego county and nothing hits better than their ribs and sausage after a long hike. Warning: If you go there, when you are hungry, you might end up ordering EVERYTHING. See proof below.

This popular spot specializes in BBQ-style dining with an extensive menu featuring brisket sandwiches, kielbasa sausage, wagyu cheeseburgers, even pizzas.
Their substantial beer menu attracts many guests, you’ll love their locally brewed craft beers.
While the Julian Beer Co. has plenty of seats inside, try to find a space on their outdoor deck. It’s like a mini beer garden and a great place to have a bite when the weather is nice.
Julian Grille
Address: 2224 Main St, Julian, CA 92036
Phone: (760) 765-0173
Website
The French and Italian-inspired, family-run Julian Grille is set in a 1920s bungalow tucked away behind lush green trees and is considered to be a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to Julian, CA restaurants.
While Greg and I usually sit outside, definitely take a peek inside. It looks so charming and cute, like stepping into “Grandma’s house”, decorated with brass candle holders, antique wall paper and crochet dollies everywhere.

You can’t leave without trying the fettuccine Alfredo tetrazzini, complemented by sautéed spinach in olive oil, the perfect combination to make your mouth water. Their burgers and portobello mushroom sandwich are also a perfect way to fuel up. Following a nice feed, be sure to pop into the Back Bar for a cheeky drink or two.
Rongbranch Restaurant
Address: 2722 Washington St, Julian, CA 92036
Phone: (760) 765-2265
Just off Main Street, this gorgeous little eatery replicates something from a country and western movie. Rongbranch Restaurant features a rustic-style building, wooden stool seating areas, and traditional buntings hung up throughout. This is the place to go for an all-American experience. They also have a really cute gift shop there selling local jams and seasonings, and little souvenirs.
Don’t leave without trying the Chicken Pot Pie! The crust is so buttery and flaky and the filling piping hot and delicious! If you’re feeling thirsty, they’re rumored to have some of Julian’s tastiest cider. Just ask about the cold cider, and the staff will look after you.
Miner’s Diner
Address: 2134 Main St, Julian, CA 92036
Phone: (760) 765-3753
Website
On the north end of Main Street is Miner’s Diner, an old-fashioned diner furnished with red and white checkered chairs and tablecloths, everything a quintessential diner would have.
Miner’s Diner is known for its cozy atmosphere and 50s vibes, but their ice cream soda and the burger is what really hits the spot. If you are coming for breakfast, stick to the hearty options and don’t order the pancakes.
Romano’s Restaurant

If you’re in the mood for Italian and wondering where to eat in Julian, look no further than Romano’s Restaurant. Established by an Italian family from Sicily in 1982, these guys know how to whip up a hearty Italian feast. The venue is an old house on the corner of B Street and Main and has a cozy ambiance that adds to its charm.
Following traditional Italian cooking methods, the team of chefs at Romano’s has crafted one of the best menus in town. Enjoy favorites such as linguine with pesto garnished with pine nuts and fettuccine romano, their family recipe of the classic alfredo.

Skipping lunch and going straight for the pie? That’s the way to do it in Julian! Mom’s Pies has been filling the bellies of locals and tourists since 1984 with crispy apple pies, sweet cookies, and other appetizing treats. This is a popular spot on Julian’s Main Street, so expect a bit of a battle for seats during your visit.

It’s no surprise Mom’s Pies is so popular; all goods are made fresh at the bakery, and they have a huge selection of items. Additionally, there are plenty of alternatives if pies aren’t your thing, including English toffee, almond brittle, banana nut bread, apple dumpling, and much more.

They serve high-quality Mexican-infused food made with fresh local ingredients for a fair price, and are open for indoor and outdoor dining. You don’t want to miss out on this culinary experience. This is also a great spot to go if you are vegan or vegetarian, gluten free or dairy free, as they are happy to customize your order to fit your dietary needs.
The family-run Quecho took over from Buffalo Bills Restaurant many years ago and is now carrying the torch, crafting delectable dishes for all. Your first glance at the menu will have you feeling spoiled for choice, from the chef’s street taco plate to the delicious chili rellenos and their aguas frescas.

If you are looking for Mexican and American fare then De Los Altos is for you. From Burgers to Burritos, they got it all. I haven’t been there yet, but their Birriaqueso tacos look mouthwatering and the California Burrito looks the size of a baby. I will report back after my visit in September!
Wynola & Santa Ysabel Restaurants
Hero’s Wood-Fired Pizza

Just off Highway 78, only a short drive from downtown Julian, is Hero’s Wood-Fired Pizza. Set in a vintage rustic building just across the street where Jeremy’s used to be, this is where people go to get away from Julian crowds over the weekend.
Other than seriously good pizza, Hero’s Wood-Fired Pizza menu comprises succulent burgers, creative sandwiches, and rich desserts. If you had your fill of apple pie and are in the mood for a “Fair” type dessert, try their Dippers: fried pizza dough dipped in cinnamon and sugar and served with a vanilla dipping sauce.

Farmhouse 78
Address: 30270 CA-78, Santa Ysabel, CA 92070
Phone: +17607822729
Website
Ok, so I have not been here yet, but once I looked at their menu, it shot right up to the number one spot I will try when I head to Julian in September. Their breakfasts sound amazing! How am I supposed to decide between cinnamon rolls dripping with vanilla frosting to country hash with brisket or their chicken & waffles? My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Their lunch and dinner menu look equally as appetizing. From Shrimp & Chorizo Orecchiette with tabasco butter to handcarved steaks and chops, classic chicken fried steak and burgers – I think I will have to eat here multiple times…

Julian Restaurant FAQs
Julian is a historic gold-rush town in the mountains an hour east of San Diego, best known for its apple orchards and apple pie. It’s a favorite fall day trip for San Diegans, with a walkable Main Street of bakeries, restaurants, and shops.
Apple pie, first and foremost — several bakeries on and around Main Street have been making it for decades. Beyond pie, Julian leans hearty and mountain-town: big breakfasts, barbecue, burgers, and comfort food, with a few more ambitious spots for dinner.
For most places, no — but weekends during apple season (September and October) get very busy, and the popular spots can have long waits. If you’re coming on a fall weekend, arrive early, eat at off-hours, or call ahead where reservations are accepted.
About an hour to an hour and a half from downtown San Diego, depending on traffic and which route you take. It’s an easy day trip, though many people stay overnight in fall.
Apple picking in season, the historic Main Street and Pioneer Museum, wine tasting at nearby wineries, and hiking in the surrounding mountains. See our things to do in Julian guide.
Yes. Julian gets genuinely cold and occasionally snowy in winter, which is a novelty for San Diego, and the town is quieter and easier to enjoy. The pie shops are open year-round.
